The coolest neighborhoods for students in Paris

If you are an international student on a budget in terms of housing as a student in Paris, you can be lucky enough to have access to some of the student residences.
If not, you will have to find a short-term student room to share with young professionals in the fantastic district of the Latin Quarter. Choose one of the long-term shared apartment with other students or young professionals, or any other student accommodation in central Paris to enjoy the French capital.

As a student, you must start the race for perfect housing. Especially when you are not necessarily Parisian, and you ignore all or almost all the habits and customs of the capital. To help you in your approach, we offer a list of the best areas for student housing in Paris. To do this, we have chosen to rely on critical criteria: the average amount of rent, the number of bars, cafes, restaurants, cinemas, municipal libraries, public museums, and the average age of the inhabitants.

Rather an inveterate partygoer or fan of the 7th art? From Bastille to Montmartre, we sifted through the boroughs of the capital to determine the ideal neighborhoods for students.

Le Quartier Latin for culture fans and parties

If your thing is books, movies, and museums, then take a look at the Latin Quarter. Great place of the student class since 1253 (date of the foundation of the college of the Sorbonne), the sector concentrates no less than 15 cinemas, seven public museums, and 4 municipal libraries. It is also one of the most vibrant areas in terms of party and nightlife. It is also where we start our pub crawl in Paris, with some of the best bars in the city. The 5th arrondissement is however in the high range of rental prices with amounts that can range from 22 € / m² to 36 € / m² for areas that spaces sometimes limited. However, opportunities are to be seized, as a 15m² furnished apartment could go at 620 €.

Eastern Paris for small budgets

A specificity of these districts: they are the youngest in all of Paris. The palm goes to the 19th arrondissement where the average age is 35 years with a lot of young professionals, and an excellent nightlife as you can find plenty of student bars and clubs all around. Adapting to the price of Parisian real estate is not an easy task. Despite the rent framework which aims to limit price inflation, the districts of the capital are not within reach of all budgets. So, if you have to be careful with your budget, bet on the 18th, 19th and 20th arrondissements instead.

The average rental amounts are between 18 € / m² minimum in the 19th and 20th, and 30 € m²maximum on the 18th. Besides, to get views of the large parks: Villette, Butte-Chaumont, Butte du Chapeau Rouge, etc. Moreover, the apartments in these districts often offer larger areas. Here a 25 m² can be found for 690€ per month.

The 1st, 6th and 9th arrondissement for bars, cafes and restaurants lovers

If you plan to spend most of your time on the terraces of the capital, then take the streets of the 1st, 6th, and 9th arrondissement. There are roughly 7 bars, cafes, and restaurants every 100 meters, and what necessarily makes you happy.

Note, however, that you will need to weigh your consumption in cash. The rental prices in these districts are high for reasonably small areas. Count between 20 € / m² at the lowest in the 9th arrondissement, and 37 € / m² in the 6th arrondissement for student accommodation. For example, you will have to pay around 700 € to obtain a 25 m² studio near Les Halles in the 1st district or choose to pay 420 € per month for a 10m² maid’s room in the 9th arrondissement.
