The Castle Hill of Nice France overlooks the bay of Nice, from 92 meters above, and used to be a military citadel. The park is the most popular public garden in the city which you must see. It is an ideal place to be if you want to get perfect views of vital landscapes and attractions.

The Monumental Cemetary

There is a Jewish cemetery on the northwestern part of the hill known as Cimetière Israélite, Allée François Aragon. The cemetary has three sections – Jewish, Protestant and Catholic. The monuments here are detailed and dazzling showcasing the rich history of Nice. We forgot to tell you that Grimaldi was buried here.

Cascade Dijon

Cascade Dijon is an artificial waterfall you will also find in the castle park. It was constructed in 1885 and a lovely sight to behold from below and above. Currently, the waterfall is sustained by the Vésubie valley waters.

The Ruins of Castle Hill

Some of the ruins of the past are revealed in this park, be it citadel or cathedral. You will see archeological digs as well as Roman relics that will make you visit more fulfilling.

How to Get Tickets

You don’t need a ticket to visit Colline du Château, as French call it, the admission is free of charge. You only need to come along with some cash to get food and drinks during or after your tour. There are some little cafes on top of the hill.

How To Get Around

There are steps on the eastern part of the hill and if you don’t want to walk, you can take the elevator. It is free to use the elevator. When you are at the top, you can take the available tracks around the park for more exploration.

What to Wear

It is advisable to wear comfortable cloth and shoes so that it will be easier for you to explore the hill. Nice is characterized by cobblestones, steps and hills. You can also come along with your bottle of drinking water. You never can tell how valuable it can be.

Best time to visit

The castle can be busy at peak season, usually July and August. You can see many tourists at this period but you need to be prepared for this.

The lunch period is the most popular time because locals may be around for picnics and this can add a perk to the fun. If you want to get the best views of the city, you can fix your trip in the morning or evening. The opening times are 8:30-18:00 from 01/10 to 31/03 and 8:30-20:00 from 01/04 to 30/09.

Will I Need a Guide?

It is not compulsory to use a guide for your tour of the Castle Hill Nice France. However, if a reputable touring company is taking you there, it is going to be an advantage for you.
